Musically Speaking

I haven't updated the Music section of the website lately, so I wanted to write a post edicated to what I've been listening to lately.

Jolie Holland – The Living and the Dead
This is a fantastic little album. I love some of her older work, but this is closer to the type of music that I tend to really enjoy – mid-tempo alt-folk/country. I really likejust about every song on this album, with the exception of "Enjoy Yourself," the closing track.

Jeffrey Foucault – Shoot the Moon Right Between the Eyes
Right now, I think this might be tied with Ghost Repeater for my favourite Jeff album. And that has very little to do with John Prine's writing. In fact, I think it's what Jeff is able to bring to these songs that makes the album shine. His cover of "Mexican Home" is a fantastic example – in my opinion, it is leagues better than the original.

Explosions in the Sky – Friday Night Lights/The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place
I discovered these guys through the television series, Friday Night Lights. They're really great for coding, simply because of the atmosphere their music creates. It's almost completely instrumental and very relaxing.

Indigo Girls – Poseidon and the Bitter Bug
I used to be a big Emily fan, but I find myself being more amazed by Amy's ability to stay strong, after twenty years. Emily's songs, which used to be the highlights of the albums for me, seem weak here, with a couple of exceptions.

In a couple weeks, I'm heading to Portland, with Katelyn, to see Kris Delmhorst and the Indigo Girls. :D

Also, my MBP just shipped – heee!
