This page is dedicated to both my music and the music I listen to, since both are fairly large parts of my life.
Lately, I’ve been on a big Kris Delmhorst kick. I’ve been listening to her since Five Stories was released, but I think I just sort of let her fall into the background for a very long while, when I discovered Patty Griffin and other musicians who have since become very important. Songs For a Hurricane, specifically, is a record that I really didn’t listen to very much when it was released, but now it’s one of my favourites. There’s also a fantastic, iTunes-exclusive live record that was recorded at Schuba’s back in 2004.
My music is in an interesting place, right now. I’m just coming out of a few very creative months. I normally only write about five or six songs per year, but I’ve actually completed six songs since the end of November, which is probably a record for me. I’ve recorded a demo record that I’ve called Grown to Die (after a line in a Townes Van Zandt song that I cover on the demo), which I like.
This is one of my newest songs, “On the Line.” Click here to listen.
Here’s a video of me covering John Prine’s “Mexican Home,” based on a cover recorded by Jeffrey Foucault. Played the song on my very new and very, very old guitar. Hoping to get some electronics installed in it soon, so I can start playing it live.
